FAMILIAR ROUTINES!

Familiar routines and rituals are often the birthing ground for unexpected surprises.

For years we have gone to Cape Cod with the same twelve couples. We go the same week each year, stay at the same place and do many of the same things. This year in the midst of conversations I experienced surprising new insights about two of the couples. It felt like a wonderful gift!

I wondered why the surprising insights happened this particular year.

In my gratitude it dawned on me that the familiarity of our shared routine was also an extended ritual for all of us. My usual curios and adventuresome spirit didn’t need to be fed by visiting a new place. Instead it was being fed by being present to one another.

I’m still feeling tickled by the surprise of the new insights. I wonder what you and I will be present to in the course of a familiar routine or ritual this week? What will we allow ourselves to be surprised by?

PRACTICES:

• Be aware of the routines and ritual which you take for granted
• Be present to them and aware of what they offer
