Wake Up Call! – Looking With New Lenses

LOOKING WITH NEW LENSES

Seeing the familiar with new eyes is to discover new life.

Paxton- my two year old nephew – and I were on the river bank bathed in the light of a Fall evening. He kept stabbing the air with his finger as he stared toward the horizon or up to the sky. He was animated and I was confused at first. I wasn’t quite sure what he was communicating.

Paying attention to him I followed where his eyes went. In making that choice I immediately got it!

Paxton was entranced with any lone bird of flock of birds in the sky; he pointed toward them, seeing them before they were obvious to me. His pleasure and delight was infectious. He never tired of it and I never tired of being included!

I’ve found myself looking at life around me differently – with expectation. Had my usual fulsome appreciation of life become dimmed or dull? My almost two year old nephew offered me a gift to clean my lenses and be attentive to life. Who and what will I experience with new eyes today?

Call-to-Action:

  • How might you view life with new lenses?
  • Be mindful about looking at the seemingly familiar with new appreciation

Notice the newness of life that your new eyes reveal.
