Wake Up Call? – Mindful Choices

MINDFUL CHOICES

Your compulsive thoughts are an opportunity to refocus and be mindful

I woke up feeling anxiety about what needed to get done that day. It felt all consuming. As I sat drinking coffee I watched the sunrise appear over the mountains and felt an unexpected sense of relief. The bright red skyline over the mountains was gorgeous seemed to invite me to consider the start of a new day.

I could choose to be played by compulsive thoughts or not.

As I chose to do my mindfulness meditation of the morning I acknowledged the consuming thoughts of all that I imagined needed to be accomplished. They were real. In the acknowledgement space was released to be present to the beauty of the day, the energy within me for goodness, and to be present to what was possible.

Those fifteen minutes soon passed. As I turned from the view of the mountains to get ready for the day I felt free. I did not need to be driven by compulsion. I could simply be present. What choice will you or I make in greeting each day?

Call-to-Action:

  • Choose to be present to this moment, this day.
  • Be mindful of your feelings; those demanding your attention and those quietly beckoning you.

Notice how your choice of mindfulness refocuses your perspective.
