Thank you is the beginning of a life of gratitude.
Decades ago I was struggling greatly with several personal and work issues. One day I was sitting with my morning coffee listing all that was wrong – and there was plenty! In that moment I thought of a wise mentor of mine. He incessantly thanks people for the smallest of things. I knew that he too struggled with much yet he was also always thankful.
I wondered that morning what it would be like to choose a life of thankfulness.
At first I set out to intentionally thank one person each day; after a few weeks that intention stretched to two people. And then it became three followed by four. Months after making my choice the need to be intentional was replaced by a natural rhythm of thankfulness.
Many months later I noticed what my choice to be thankful had resulted in. The issues I was struggling with were still real and needed to be worked through. But the light of gratitude shone a different light on them. I am thankful! Who and what will you and I be thankful for today?
- Choose to be thankful
- Make a daily intention to express thanks to anther
Notice how choosing thankfulness creates a pathway to a life of gratitude.
