Wake Up Call! – The Good Life?

THE GOOD LIFE?

The good life reflects your choices about how to be.

I sat in Carolyn’s living room discussing the graveside celebration of life that she wanted when she died. “What would you like said about you?” I asked. Without hesitation she said, “I’ve had a good life.” Then in spite of the cancer attacking her body she added, “I have a good life.”

Instead of anger, regret or denial Carolyn was choosing to die as she had lived, with thankfulness for her life.

The good life for Carolyn was the richness of relationships – with her husband, children, grand-kids, great-grand-kids and friends; the opportunity to have traveled and learned from others and the wisdom from many spiritual traditions that had anchored her peace and gladness.

I reflected on the generosity of her life marked by curiosity. In the weeks that followed I returned again and again to naming the people and experiences that mark the good life for me. What does the good life look like for you?

Call-to-Action:

  • Reflect on the good that shapes your life
  • Name and give thanks to those who are part of the rich goodness of your life

Notice how celebrating the good life enriches your life and the relationships which nourish you.
